RPGd/TProBBS
Sarge Posted: 27-Dec-01 03:57
For some strange reason I can't get to http://www.microwavesoft.com/rpgd/ to look at the RPG Daemon (UN*X clone of TProBBS, the ultra-cool RPG BBS known as "Drag/Net II: The Realm of Darkness").
I know of certain kick-ass developments being done within the Drag/Net community...mooowooohahahahahaha What've you heard?

Welcome to DragNET II: The Realm of Darkness.
S i n c e 1 9 8 4
This BBS runs from 300 to 2400 baud and is now supporting full Microcom Network Protocol (MNP Reliable Link) for error-free transmission if you have a modem which supports it.
Please enjoy your stay. If you are a new user and are wondering why it takes so long to be a verified user, it is because the BBS user file is updated weekly. Please be patient.
John, Charlie, Arthur, Dennis, Jim
Your SysOp and Remote SysOps.
Warning: This BBS has been known to cause brain damage, diziness, excessive laughter, thought-provoking innuendos, feces, cows, Spam, and oodles of non-synchronized swimmers doing a tap dance on steaming coals.

Welcome to Drag/NET II: The Realm of Darkness RPGBBS. Please read and comply with the information given herein. This RPGBBS will automatically delete any user at any time if you do not post enough public messages or if you hang up on the system. You are the only one who determines your fate here.
This means that you MUST use the BBS part of this board and post messages.
NEITHER THE SYSTEM OPERATOR (SYSOP) NOR REMOTE SYSOPS HAVE CONTROL OVER THIS!
Those AD&D fans out there should recognize that this board is also a RPG board, and each user will get his/her own character. However, this does not mean that you have to play the RPG to be on this board, it is merely provided as a game for those who wish to play. For those of you who do play, please remember that this is a BBS first and an RPG second. If you do not use the BBS, you will not be able to play the RPG.
You do not have to become a user of this BBS to look around. If you like, you may log on as a guest to look around the BBS and try the RPG. Just answer all the questions needed to create your temporary guest account, and then you will be asked if you want a permanent account or a guest one.

Something nice:
http://www.aurum-industries.com/~guy/apple2/
Guy T. Rice is the guy who wrote the original TProBBS.

I'll soon have more TPro than one can shake a stick at.
There's a true-to-form version under development as we speak, and it's pretty darn hoopy.

It has been a few years, but rest assured I'm still working on this!

Yes, I wrote the Amiga port of the TProBBS game back in 1992, then to Linux in 1999. The web site is still available at http://games.microwavesoft.com/rpgd

I've been looking for something like this for a LONG TIME. I had to sell my IIgs when I moved to college back in '93 and prior to that, I had been working with Guy T. Rice on TProBBS II v5.0, which was much more of a messaging and file transfer system than a gaming BBS. I've been trying to track Guy down and see about getting some code from him again, since all I have are the original 3.5" floppy discs and no drives to read them.
I'm curious if anyone else is out there from the old TProBBS v4.2f days - the Minnesota scene (where Guy live(d)) was really hopping back in the 80's. I ran a few BBS's back then (Rebel Isle, Forbidden Kingdom and The Future BBS) and was fortunate enough to hook up with Guy and a friend of his (Dark Rider from Darksword BBS - I am leaving his name out intentionally.) Those were the good old days.
I'm working on a Mac OS X 10.5 port of rpgd, though my C development skills are nothing like what I used to be able to do in Apple BASIC and 65C02 assembly language. |
